The Impact of High Click Through Rate (CTR) in Adwords.

I’m often asked :

How do you reduce spend on Google Adwords?

Improving Click Through Rate usually can have a dramatic effect on your Cost Per Click which in turn reduces your overall spend. Here’s an example one of our customers Adwords campaigns.

CTR brings down CPC

The First campaign is the original campaign before 1upSearch.

The Second shows the new 1upSearch designed campaign.

The difference is obvious - 6x more clicks for the same money..

Click through rate can be increased in a number of ways. At my company, 1upSearch, have developed a Seven Step Adwords methodology that has a proven track record of turning Google AdWords in to profit centres by improving CTR. I’ll be posting this method exclusively on alexdigital.com soon so make sure you keep up-to-date with RSS.

Charging What You’re Worth - Knowing where to Hammer.

Often small businesses find it difficult to justify their charges or worse still don’t charge what they’re worth. In my industry people aren’t always aware how your pricing system works or the REAL value in what you do. I recently had this problem with one client. Although we’d improved his internet marketing by optimising his Google Adwords account saving him at least £7000.00 per yeah he felt that because we hadn’t spent a fixed amount of time on every month on his campaign we’d not delivered what we promised (we don’t sell our service by the hour.)

I tried to communicate this with a simple story -

A man was suffering a persistent problem with his house. The floor squeaked. No matter what he tried, nothing worked. Finally, he called a carpenter who friends said was a true craftsmen. The craftsmen walked into the room, and heard the squeak. He set down his toolbox, pulled out a hammer and nail, and pounded the nail into the floor with three blows.

The squeak was gone forever. The carpenter pulled out an invoice, on which he wrote the total of £45. Above the total were two line items:

Hammering , £2
Knowing where to hammer, £43

The simple message is this - Charge for Knowing, not for Doing.

Thunderbird - A real Outlook alternative ?

So I been using Mozilla Firefox for ages and it’s the best browser - that’s a certainty. But what about the Mozilla e-mail client - Thunderbird? Is it a real Outlook alternative ?

In a word. No.

Don’t get me wrong. It is a great bit of FREE software, but compared to the commercial usefulness of Outlook it lacks in some few key areas. Let me explain :

1) Just the other week Thunderbird told me that there was new update available - so it helpfully went off and downloaded the required update - so far so good - unfortunately something went wrong and it wasn’t able to install it. This then became a real problem as Thunderbird wouldn’t open and just got stuck in loop. Luckily about a week or so later it fixed it self and went away.

2) The Junk filter is a little confusing. If you set it to delete junk mail automatically it doesn’t move them toe recycle bin - it just deletes it meaning any Real e-mail that gets auto marked as spam is lost for ever. This could probably be resolved by setting it to move it to a junk folder but still…

3) No Coloured flags.

Maybe i’m being picky. Download it yourself and give it a try - just make sure you don’t depend on it for anything important else you may be disappointed.
