iPod 1418 Error Fix

The other day my girlfriends mothers ipod (click wheel, ipod Photo) packed up while being updated from the PC. After a number of attempts to get it working I decided it needed to be restored. Unfortunately after trying numerous times, Itunes kept giving an error with the code 1418.

After sometime on Google i realised this seems to be a common problem. I tried the following fixes without success:

Reformating the Ipod in Windows
Unplugging the cable as soon as you click the “restore”
Reinstalling USB Drivers
Trying another computer
The HP USB Key Format utility

All these failed.

I was sure the Ipod was dead and trip to the Apple store was needed. I decided to try one last method that i’d read somewhere on a forum – the whack it on the desk method…

…So I gave it a whack. The ipod then rebooted and started working perfectly – no really it did. Its probably short term but hey.

Hope one of these works for you.

Update. The iPod eventually died about 12 months afterwards. Has only recently been replaced!
